Our Classes
Collage
with Alyss Smith
Thanks to a Creative Aging grant from the Utah Division of Arts and Museums (funded by your tax dollars), we are hosting this free, 6-week beginner’s collage course designed for ages 55 and up. No prior art or collage experience is required.
In this hands-on, welcoming workshop, participants will be introduced to collage as an accessible and expressive art form using vintage magazines and mixed media materials. Each week builds on the last, beginning with foundational techniques and gradually expanding into composition, color, texture, and visual storytelling. Learners will explore collage as a way to reflect on memories, emotions, identity, and personal themes, culminating in a self-portrait collage project.
Weekly sessions include step-by-step instruction, guided discussions, and generous time for personal exploration in a supportive, social environment. The course emphasizes process over perfection, encouraging curiosity, play, and creative confidence at any age.
The course will culminate in a community sharing event, co-shaped by participants and the teaching artist, celebrating each learner’s creative journey. Attendance at all 6 weekly sessions and the culminating community sharing event is strongly encouraged to support group connection and learning continuity.
Dates & Times: April 21, 28, May 5, 12, 19, 26
5–7 PM (2 hours each session)
Culminating Event: June 2
